Since the City of God movie, Brazil didn't see a chance to win at least one statuette of The Academy Award. This movie is a real masterpiece indeed.
“I’m Still Here” will win the Oscar.
The Walter Salles movie is not a unanimity only in critic's evaluation. The numbers of people in the theaters are also very good.
Brazil was forgotten by The Academy in movies like City of God (Oscar nominated), Elite Squad (winner of Golden Berlin Bear) and Central Station (also a Walter Salles movie).
Now it’s time for Brazil to shine.
The chances are very high to Fernanda Torres and to the producers of I’m Still Here to bring to Brazil, the first Oscar. At least one award.
Fernanda has an important competitor ahead: Demi Moore. The American actress is wonderful in “The Substance”. Will be hard. And the Brazilian movie will fight a battle against another phenomenal: the mexican-french production “Emilia Perez”.
One of these two awards will be Brazilian: best international movie or best actress in a leading role.
Walter Salles coronation
To be more persuasive about the Brazilian award, let’s give to Walter Salles a simple paragraph.
He is probably the most important Brazilian director of the last years, with a strong and balanced career, including Hollywood productions. Besides “Central Station” and “I’m Still Here”, Salles also directed modern classics like the extraordinary Motorcycle Diaries, Linha de Passe, Behind the Sun and Foreign Land. I recommend watching all these movies. It’s time for Walter Salles coronation.
Luckily for Brazilians, “I’m Still Here” movie can be the real turning point of the revival of Brazilian cinema, we published a note about this.
In financial field, the movie also is breaking the records
Return on Investment of “I'm Still Here”
The Box Office Mojo, a platform that measures revenue in cinema, published that I’m Still Here to surpass $15 million of revenue in the world. The movie costs about $1.5 million, just to mention.
The Walter Salles movie, it’s crushing records in Brazil. All the theaters rooms are very crowded here. More than 4 million people watched the movie in Brazilian theaters until January 31st.
In the US, in the IDMb list, the movie is in 37th position of revenue in 2025. To have an idea, the movie Conclave, another potential best movie Oscar winner, is in 32nd position.
Big congratulations to the producers Walter Salles, Rodrigo Teixeira, Martine de Clermont-Tonnerre and Maria Carlota Fernandes Bruno, VideoFilmes, RT Features, Mact Productions, Conspiração Filmes e Arte France Cinéma, the main financial supporters of the movie.
10X ROI movie until now!
After the Oscar ceremony and the awards, this revenue will raise a lot, it’s customary.
